If you ask Filip Vancoillie, water is a natural resource that needs to be treated extra carefully. In his view, the way we as a society handle water today will prove to have a crucial impact on the wellbeing of future generations. Innovation and digitalization are key to handle these challenges.
Filip Vancoillie obtained a Master’s degree in civil engineering in 2003. He then quickly started to focus on the role of water in creating a sustainable future and on how water acts as the linchpin between humans, society and nature. Further elaborating his knowledge through several working experiences in Latin-America, Filip obtained a Master’s degree in cultures and development studies. This proved very valuable throughout his career: he learnt how a holistic approach is indispensable. A deep understanding of connecting people and business models, of which technology is needed and how it is used, and of how to identify key processes and their need for change are just a few examples of his skills.
Since 2018, Filip is the head of Asset Management for De Watergroep’s distribution network. This newly created division’s mission is to bring the maturity of its asset management to the highest level. In this role, he is at the helm of the De Watergroep’s Non Revenue Water program. This program aims to reduce water leakage and is introducing innovation to push the boundaries of what is achievable in state-of-the-art asset management in order to better satisfy the customers’ needs.
